Freetown, 2nd October 2026- The Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has announced October 26, 2026 as the date for its forthcoming leadership elections, as the association moves forward with its transition process under a newly constituted caretaker body.

The elections will be held at the Freetown International Conference Centre, Bintumani, Aberdeen, beginning at 3:00 p.m., according to a notice issued by the SLBA Caretaker Body on October 2.

The caretaker body, headed by Osman Ibrahim Kanu Esq., assumed responsibility for organising the elections following an Extraordinary General Meeting of the association on August 6, 2026.

In its notice to members, the caretaker body said it is committed to ensuring that the elections are conducted in a transparent, accountable, professional and orderly manner.

The association said the caretaker body will develop the rules and procedures to guide the conduct of the election, while further information on nominations, voter verification and polling arrangements will be communicated through the SLBA’s official channels.

The Annual General Meeting scheduled for October 26 will receive nominations for seven key positions within the association. They are President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary General, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Public Relations Officer.

Members will also elect Directors of the association and appoint auditors to serve until the next Annual General Meeting. The meeting is further expected to authorise the Directors to determine the auditors’ remuneration.

The caretaker body has also clarified who will be eligible to participate in the election.

According to the notice, only members who had paid their conference and subscription fees, with evidence of payment by bank slip, on or before May 29, 2026, will be eligible to vote or be voted for. The caretaker body urged members to cooperate with the transition and election arrangements, stressing the importance of preserving the dignity, independence, unity and professional integrity of the Bar Association.
