Kenema, Sierra Leone, August 30, 2025 – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have confirmed the death of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu, a Catholic priest of the Immaculate Conception Church in Burma 3 Section, Kenema, following an overnight attack by unidentified armed men.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 30. At approximately 7:43 a.m., a parishioner alerted authorities that Rev. Fr. Amadu had been assaulted at his residence, which he occupied alone. Investigators say the assailants forcibly entered the parish house through a damaged window.

A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, and the priestโ€™s remains were transported to the Kenema Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. At this time, it remains unclear whether any property was stolen during the attack.

No arrests have been made, but several parishioners and church officials who arrived for early morning service are currently assisting police with statements. The SLP has assured the public, especially the Catholic community, that a full-scale investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

In a separate development, police in Bo City arrested two individuals on August 27 as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety. Rodney Massaquoi and his wife, Mamie Jacob, were taken into custody after authorities discovered a cache of items at their residence, including a single-barreled gun, an empty rifle magazine, multiple uniforms and accessories belonging to the Operations Support Division (OSD), and various bladed weapons.

Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
