Freetown, 8th September, 2026 – The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has released a price list for JSS and SSS school uniforms for the 2026/2027 academic year to guide both schools and parents to ensure uniformity and prevent overcharging.
The list breaks down uniform costs for boys and girls in both Christian and Muslim schools:
For JSS & SSS boys, a pocket badge costs SLE 20, while a neck tie, which remains not mandatory, costs SLE 50. In addition, a set of two (2) sewn JSS uniforms with badges costs Le, 450. Whereas for the SSS, two sets of sewn uniforms with badges cost SLE 500.
For JSS & SSS girls (Muslim), a hijab is priced at SLE 75, a pocket badge costs SLE 20, and two (2) sets of sewn uniforms with badges cost SLE 450.
Whereas for JSS girls (Christian), a beret with crest and a belt cost SLE 90 each. A pocket badge costs SLE 20, while 2 sets of sewn uniforms with badges cost SLE 450.
For SSS girls (Christian), the prices are slightly higher. A felt hat and band cost Le, 210, a belt costs SLE 90, a pocket badge costs SLE 20, and two (2) sets of sewn uniforms with badges cost SLE 450.
The Ministry has, therefore, urged all school authorities to adhere strictly to these approved rates. It also advised parents and guardians to use the list as a reference to avoid exploitation by uniform vendors.
As schools have reopened, the publication of this price list is expected to bring clarity and protect families from arbitrary costs.
