Freetown, 5th September, 2026 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) has opened an urgent investigation into allegations that official ministry documents were improperly used in a visa application submitted to a diplomatic mission.
According to a statement, the Ministry confirmed receipt of a formal complaint and acknowledged related concerns raised in the public domain. In response, Foreign Affairs has set up an internal committee tasked with reviewing the matter. The committee will examine all relevant documentation, assess existing procedures, and determine whether breaches of protocol occurred.
The probe will also evaluate safeguards surrounding the preparation and transmission of official correspondence, including visa requests, with the aim of tightening institutional controls.
“Any unauthorised use or breach of procedures, if confirmed, will be dealt with through appropriate administrative or legal action,” the Ministry assured.
Officials stressed that the investigation will be conducted swiftly, with respect for due process and impartiality. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, accountability, and institutional responsibility, pledging to communicate further developments as appropriate.
This latest move underscores growing scrutiny over the handling of official documents in Sierra Leone’s diplomatic and administrative processes, as the government seeks to strengthen transparency and public trust.
