Freetown, 2nd September 2026 – China’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Yong, has paid a courtesy call on the country’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, delivering a congratulatory message from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on China–Sierra Leone relations and other matters of mutual interest. Ambassador Zhao congratulated Minister Swaray on his appointment and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Sierra Leone.
“This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sierra Leone,” Zhao noted. “China is willing to take this opportunity to work together with Sierra Leone to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.”
Minister Swaray expressed gratitude to Foreign Minister Wang Yi and praised the longstanding friendship between the two nations. He emphasized Sierra Leone’s readiness to join efforts with China to continuously promote the development of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting underscored the enduring partnership between the two countries, which has spanned more than five decades and continues to expand across diplomacy, trade, and development.
