Freetown, 24th August 2026- The Ministry of Information and Civic Education will on Wednesday, August 26, convene a high‑level civic town hall meeting at the Miatta Civic Center in Brookfields, Freetown. The forum is expected to bring together key stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s education sector to deliberate on pressing issues affecting learning outcomes nationwide.
Among the keynote speakers are Conrad Sackey, Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education; Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education; and Francis Ben Kaifala, Commissioner of the Anti‑Corruption Commission. Their participation underscores the government’s recognition of education as a cornerstone of national development.
According to the Information Ministry, Sierra Leone invests over 20 percent of its GDP in education, a commitment that has yielded notable progress in recent years. Gains include improved pass rates, higher student retention, and the expansion of school feeding programmes. Yet, officials warn that examination malpractice continues to undermine the integrity of the system and threatens the quality of education delivered.
The town hall will provide a platform for educators, policymakers, civil society, and students to engage in frank discussions on how to safeguard the sector’s achievements. Organizers say the meeting is designed to chart a collective path forward, ensuring that reforms translate into sustainable improvements for future generations.
