Freetown, 14th August 2026– The All People’s Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate suspension of the newly‑passed Constitutional Amendment Act 2025, declaring its intention to seek redress at the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone.
The party’s Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, announced during a press conference at APC headquarters in Freetown, describing the legislation as unconstitutional and warning that it undermines democratic order.
Dumbuya said the APC would not recognize the Act until the country’s highest court rules on its legality. “We are committed to pursuing this matter through the Supreme Court to ensure that constitutional safeguards are respected,” he stated.
The APC’s move signals a deepening political standoff over constitutional reform, with the party insisting that due process must prevail. The press conference drew attention to growing tensions between Government and Opposition over the pace and scope of constitutional changes.
The party emphasized that its challenge is aimed at protecting constitutional integrity and ensuring that reforms are not imposed without broad consensus.
The matter now shifts to the judiciary, where the APC hopes the Supreme Court will provide clarity on the constitutionality of the amendment.
