Freetown, 23rd June, 2026 — The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has announced revised dates for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), confirming that the exams will now commence on Monday, July 6.
The adjustment, according to the Ministry, follows careful consideration of logistical and administrative requirements to ensure a smooth, fair, and well-organized examination process nationwide.
Officials acknowledged the anxiety caused by the uncertainty surrounding the exam schedule but assured parents, guardians, and candidates that every measure is being taken to guarantee that this year’s BECE proceeds without disruption.
“The Ministry remains committed to a transparent and well-coordinated examination process,” the statement emphasized, noting that further updates, including the full timetable, will be communicated through official channels in the coming days.
The announcement comes at a critical time for thousands of pupils preparing for the BECE, which serves as the gateway to senior secondary education. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the examination system and thanked the public for its patience and continued trust.
