Freetown, 25th May, 2026 —The newly appointed Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., has stated that in line with the mandate given to him by His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio “is to maintain decorum in sports.”
Conteh Esq., who assumed office on 30th April, 2026, made this statement during the turning of the sod for the construction of the 435-seater pavilion at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), on 22nd May, 2026.
His statement came with issues surrounding the sacking of the Leone Stars’ former Head Coach, Mohamed Kallon, the disputes between the former NSA boss, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai and the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, who alleged that the former NSA boss was the one who signed a contract for the former Leone Stars Head Coach. These sparked serious concerns.
Conteh declared his willingness to work with the various sporting sectors, apologized to the Minister of Sports following the rancour that happened before his appointment, while also stating that in his few weeks in office, closed doors have been reopened.
Conteh acknowledged the authority, power, and mandate of the Minister of Sports and hoped she would help him play a great role to succeed at the NSA and vouched for her respect. “I will not use the NSA Act to Fight My Supervisory Ministry,” he said.
The Minister of Sports assured collaboration with the Executive Director and the NSA.
