Freetown, May 2026- Oladipipo Robbin-Coker left Freetown as a kid with nothing but a dribble and a dream. He returned as living proof that basketball can rewrite destinies. Popularly called Pipo, though on the gritty outdoor courts where he first crossed over defenders twice his size, they simply called him “The Spark.”

From those humble beginnings, Pipo’s journey unfolded like a highlight reel, spanning continents and leaving an indelible mark from Freetown to Europe. Now, after years of competing in professional arenas abroad, he has parked his sneakers on the sideline of history not to rest, but to build. And he is not building alone.

Pipo’s basketball odyssey began on the vibrant blacktops of Freetown, where he first laced up his sneakers and found his rhythm. His competitive fire was first stoked with the Forcians in the 2nd Division, a proving ground where raw talent meets relentless hustle. It wasn’t long before he levelled up, joining the Young Sportsman Club (YSC) in the 1st Division, sharpening his game against the best local talent.

His relentless work ethic and undeniable skill quickly earned him a coveted spot on the Sierra Leone U18 National Team, a clear sign that he was destined for bigger stages. From there, Europe called. The arenas grew brighter, the stakes higher, but the fire inside him never changed. Today, Pipo has transformed that fire into a movement called Beyond Basketball.

Beyond Basketball is Pipo’s living legacy, a bold initiative designed to uplift the very league that shaped him. Teams like Red Flame, Forcians, Freetown Lakers, and Murray Deen Heats pulse with raw, untapped potential. Still, Pipo saw what the stat sheets never show: talented kids quitting the game because they could not afford shoes, teenage captains unable to read a contract, rising stars with no clear pathway past the local league. He decided to change the math.

That decision led to a game-changing partnership with Narnia Educational Group, a pan-African network built on the belief that a child’s postal code should never predict their potential. When Narnia heard Pipo’s story, the Forcians kid who went continental, they did not simply sign a partnership deal. Together, they built a curriculum.

The collaboration launched an ambitious program “Beyond Basketball” Under this initiative, where grades are non-negotiable. Beyond the classroom, Pipo and Narnia organize distribution of training materials like cones, basketball, etc., and also help local coaches with training gear sport, and lastly promote childhood involvement in basketball.

Secretary General Ishmail Bangura of the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation said. “What Pipo and Narnia have started here is a beacon for every young baller in this country,” Bangura said. “Too often our players dream of escape without a roadmap. Now they see a legend who walked these same streets, proving that discipline on the court can create opportunities and open borders. This initiative isn’t just admirable; it is one of the most motivational forces our basketball community has seen in years.

Ariana Oluwale, a key partner at Beyond Basketball, has witnessed the grassroots reality firsthand. “For years, I’ve seen the constraints kids practicing on dirt courts with torn nets, talented players quitting because they couldn’t afford exam sneakers, girls disappearing from rosters because no one believed in their future,” Oluwale said. “Those challenges are exactly why I stepped in. Beyond Basketball and Narnia are not here to run a one-time program and leave. We are aiding basketball players and creating pipelines that turn athletic promise into lifelong opportunity. My commitment is to help this initiative deliver, not just in Freetown but nationally.“

Pipo’s story was never just about points per game. It was about proving that a kid from Freetown could shape a continent. Beyond Basketball is that proof, now multiplied. With Narnia Educational Group and partners like Ariana Oluwale as his co-pilots, and with the backing of leaders like Secretary General Ishmail Bangura, Pipo is not merely giving back to the league that raised him; he is blueprinting a future where every dribble comes with direction, and every layup leads to a livelihood. Because the game does not end when you stop playing. It just changes jerseys.
