Geneva, 11th May, 2026 — Sierra Leone’s Attorney‑General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Alpha Sesay Esq., has arrived in Switzerland to lead the country’s delegation at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group of the UN Human Rights Council.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Sierra Leone’s human rights record will come under scrutiny for the fourth time as part of the UPR process, which involves 14 countries scheduled for review between May 4 and 15. The session will assess progress made and challenges faced in strengthening rights protections across the nation.

Hon. Sesay is accompanied by a high‑level team including Deputy Foreign Minister Francess Paigie Alghali, Principal State Counsel Alimamy Sesay, Thomas Freeman of the Attorney‑General’s Office, Dr. David Sidikie Yambasu, Executive Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Patrick Morlai Koroma, Director of Legal, Economic and Technical Cooperation.

Upon arrival at Geneva International Airport, the delegation was warmly received by Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to the UN, Samuel U.B. Saffa, and mission staff, underscoring the importance of Sierra Leone’s participation in this global accountability process.

The UPR, established in 2006, provides a platform for UN member states to review each other’s human rights records and recommend reforms. Sierra Leone’s engagement reflects its ongoing commitment to international cooperation and the promotion of human rights standards.
