Freetown, 10th April 2026 The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has terminated the appointment of Mohamed Kallon as Head Coach of the Leone Stars, citing repeated breaches of administrative, operational, and regulatory obligations.

The decision, reached at a duly convened meeting of the SLFA Executive Committee, followed a comprehensive review of Kallon’s conduct and performance. Officials said the move was necessary to uphold professional standards and compliance with international football protocols.

Mohamed Kallon’s dismissal as Head Coach of the Leone Stars was rooted in a series of breaches that the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) described as persistent and unacceptable. Officials noted that he repeatedly failed to attend official team and squad announcement press conferences, a basic requirement of his role. He also refused to hold mandatory pre-match and post-match press conferences, violating competition regulations and media protocols that govern international fixtures.

The situation escalated during the 2026 FIFA Series match against Azerbaijan, where Kallon openly defied FIFA directives by declining to appear at the official press conference despite direct instructions from FIFA officials and Sierra Leone’s delegation. Instead, he authorized a non-designated coach, Paul Kpaka, to represent him, a move the SLFA said undermined the team’s credibility.

Further concerns were raised over his insistence on including a “mental coach” in the delegation, an action deemed contrary to established protocols. He also refused to travel with the designated Goalkeeper Coach, dismissing him on the grounds of being a foreigner — a decision the SLFA condemned as xenophobic and unjustifiable in a professional sporting environment.

Kallon’s conduct extended beyond match duties. He engaged in unauthorized social media commentary on confidential matters, particularly credential verification processes under CAF requirements, exposing the association to reputational and regulatory risks. In addition, he refused to appoint and travel with a duly qualified Assistant Coach 2, instead insisting on including an individual who did not meet CAF’s prescribed qualifications.

The SLFA concluded that these acts and omissions represented a fundamental breach of his responsibilities as head coach and irreparably undermined trust in his leadership. He was directed to immediately cease holding himself out as Head Coach and to hand over all property and documentation belonging to the association.

Despite the strong language of the termination notice, the SLFA acknowledged Kallon’s service to the national team and expressed appreciation for his contributions during his tenure, wishing him success in his future professional endeavors.
