New York, March 26, 2026 — Sierra Leone’s Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, has taken center stage at the United Nations, leading a global push to integrate gender equality into tax systems.

Speaking at the 32nd Session of the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, Mrs. Bangura presented a strategic work plan in her capacity as Co-Coordinator of the Subcommittee on Tax and Gender. She underscored that tax systems are not inherently gender neutral and must be deliberately designed to address inequalities, particularly in the informal economy and across developing nations.

The work plan outlines a roadmap through 2028, focusing on practical guidance for tax policy, administration, data collection, and international taxation. Its outputs are intended to be accessible, actionable, and responsive to the needs of countries seeking more inclusive fiscal frameworks.

Mrs. Bangura described the initiative as both timely and essential, reaffirming the Subcommittee’s commitment to building fairer tax systems worldwide. She invited the Committee’s guidance and approval to advance the work, positioning Sierra Leone as a key voice in shaping global tax reforms that prioritize equity and gender inclusion.

Her leadership marks a significant step in ensuring that taxation becomes a tool not only for revenue generation but also for social justice and sustainable development.
