Freetown, 24th March, 2026 – Parliament is set to resume frequent sittings following a long recess, with Speaker Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas announcing a special meeting with the leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) in his chambers on Wednesday at 1:00 PM.

The Speaker’s move signals a renewed push for dialogue and discipline in the House as lawmakers return to business. He emphasized that Members of Parliament must recommit themselves to their constitutional duty of serving the people, reminding them of Section 97(b) of the 1991 Constitution, which requires MPs to act as representatives of the people and avoid conduct that enriches themselves or distances them from their constituents.

“You have been elected by your people. You come to this House of Parliament to serve the Republic of Sierra Leone. All other considerations are secondary,” Speaker Thomas declared, stressing that party allegiance must not overshadow national responsibility.

He clarified that the extended adjournment was deliberately timed to allow the APC to complete its lower-level elections and to accommodate the Eid holiday, insisting the decision was made in good faith to avoid disadvantaging any party.

As sittings resume, the Speaker urged MPs to attend regularly and warned against using absenteeism as a political tactic. He noted there are “more than one hundred and ten ways” to press government for action without undermining parliamentary attendance.

With the special meeting scheduled and sittings set to become more frequent, Speaker Thomas’s message underscored a renewed focus on accountability, unity, and service to the people of Sierra Leone.
