Freetown, 18th March, 2026 – The National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) has confirmed it is working closely with the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the disappearance of several portable ultrasound machines during distribution.

In a statement, the Agency said all staff linked to the distribution chain from the central warehouse to health facilities have been handed over to support the ongoing investigation.

Management stressed that anyone found culpable in the alleged corrupt act, which undermines the delivery of quality healthcare services, will face the full force of the law.

To curb future incidents, the Ministry of Health is preparing a nationwide campaign against drug pilferage and theft. NMSA also pledged to strengthen security and accountability mechanisms at its central warehouse and across district distribution points, while deepening collaboration with the ACC.

“The Agency remains firmly committed to transparency, accountability, and integrity in the management of public medical supplies,” the statement read. “Efforts are underway to ensure a swift investigation and recovery of the missing equipment so they can reach the health facilities intended and improve health outcomes for Sierra Leoneans.”

The incident has sparked concern among health advocates, who say the loss of vital equipment like ultrasound machines could delay critical services for patients.
