Tokeh, 16th February 2026- In a symbolic ceremony held at Tokeh, Mandain Global has turned the sod for the construction of a thousand-seater Mandain Cultural Centre where the Mandingo culture and language will be taught and practised. Speaking on its significant benefit to one of Sierra Leone’s most distinguished ethnic groups, the Mandingo, Ismael Kallon, the Global President, noted:
“For far too long, we have neglected our cultural values and traditions. The construction of a cultural village is vital for us to come together as partners, community members, and stakeholders to learn the historic Mandingo values and traditions.”
Kallon added that the multipurpose cultural centre will bring many important institutions under one roof, including: a Mandain Heritage Museum, the N’ko Learning Centre, community and cultural event spaces, and educational and heritage programs.
”This project has been part of our vision for over five years, and we are now focused on making it a reality. The Mandain Global Cultural Centre will stand as a symbol of unity, identity, and cultural preservation for generations to come.”
While the organisation and its sub-units are seeking funds to support the construction of this important landmark in the Peninsula area, the President of the Mandingo National Union, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, commended Mandain Global for initiating the Mandain Global Cultural Centre project. He urged his audience to support Mandain Global’s efforts, urging those with outstanding pledges to honour their financial promises so the construction can be completed.
”We thank those who have paid their pledges and we appeal to those who have not yet done so, especially while the project is starting off.”
Construction of the project is estimated to be completed in five years, and it will also be open to other tribal and cultural activities. The Project Manager, Jamal Conteh, maintained that the project will stand the test of time, not only as the first modern cultural facility for breeding and promoting culture and values, but as a project that will always inspire other ethnic groups to follow suit.
