Freetown, January 22, 2026 — Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress (APC), has announced a major national gathering scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Attouga Stadium in Cline Town. The event, themed “The Road to 2028 – Electoral Readiness, Unity & Discipline,” is expected to draw party leaders, executives, and members from across the country.
According to the APC National Secretariat, the meeting will serve as a critical forum to engage members on the party’s roadmap to the 2028 elections, with emphasis on internal preparedness and electoral readiness.
Discussions will center on Recommendation 78 of the Tripartite Committee, which addresses the preferred electoral system for future polls, alongside updates on ongoing electoral reforms and the civic responsibilities of members.
The Secretariat noted that, given time constraints ahead of lower‑level elections beginning on February 7, 2026, the Attouga Stadium meeting will act as a national platform for all categories of membership. The party urged attendees to conduct themselves peacefully and orderly, stressing that “through action, progress and commitment, the APC remains firmly positioned on the winning path to 2028.”
In response to the APC’s request, the Sierra Leone Police confirmed that the Inspector General has granted clearance for the meeting. The approval, however, is strictly limited to the ceremony itself and does not extend to processions, rallies, or jogging.
Police authorities reminded organizers of the provisions of the Public Order Act of 1965 and the Road Traffic Regulations of 2007, which will guide the conduct of the event. The APC has been directed to liaise with the Regional Police Commander, Freetown East, AIG Brima Kanneh, to finalize security and traffic arrangements.
The clearance underscores cooperation between the opposition party and law enforcement, ensuring that the high‑profile gathering proceeds within the bounds of law and order. With both the APC and the Sierra Leone Police aligned on maintaining discipline and safety, the Attouga Stadium meeting is set to be a pivotal moment in the party’s march toward 2028.
