Freetown, 24th November 2025- Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal (NSBT), a key operator at the Freetown Port under the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), has been honoured with a Special Achievement Award at the 2025 International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards.

NSBT acknowledged the vital support and partnership of SLPHA and its senior management, whose collaboration and guidance have been instrumental in driving improvements across the port to the benefit of all stakeholders.

The award, presented at the IBJ Awards ceremony on 17th November at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, recognised Freetown Port’s outstanding contributions to the global maritime bulk industry.

According to the citation, the Special Achievement Award on Cargo Handling is reserved for organisations that demonstrate exceptional accomplishments within the global dry bulk sector. The honour highlighted NSBT’s successful completion of the new third berth at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal, alongside continued development, enhanced cargo-handling efficiencies, and ongoing operational upgrades.

In addition, Freetown Port was shortlisted for the “Best Dry Bulk Port” Award, an accolade it previously won in 2016. This year’s nomination further reflects the terminal’s strong performance, innovative approach, and commitment to excellence both regionally and internationally.

Accepting the award on behalf of the terminal and Freetown Port, NSBT General Manager Siamba Kamara expressed deep appreciation: “We are profoundly honoured to receive this distinguished award, which reaffirms our commitment, dedication, and resilience in improving the standards of cargo handling.”

He described the recognition as both a privilege and an inspiration to continue contributing to the growth and success of Freetown Port, extending gratitude to the Nectar Group, the NSBT team, SLPHA, partners, and the wider community.

NSBT Director Guy Wilkes added that the award represents a significant achievement not only for the employees and management of NSBT but also for the leadership and staff of SLPHA, and for Sierra Leone as a whole.

SLPHA continues to attract praise and recognition for its increasing efficiency, productivity, and growing influence in the maritime and shipping sectors.
