Freetown, 10th November 2025- The Residential Elderly Care Foundation recently hosted a vibrant one-day fun and games event that brought joy, excitement, and a renewed sense of community to elderly participants. From the outset, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, encouraging seniors to engage in friendly competition and meaningful social connection.

Founder and Executive Director, Mr. Karifa Thoronka, praised the athletes for their enthusiasm and pledged to expand future participation.

“We didn’t get a lot of communities because we mostly target deprived and underprivileged ones, so we can bring them together and support them through our sponsors,” he explained.

The day’s activities were thoughtfully designed to challenge both body and mind, with games testing speed, balance, memory, and coordination. Participants gave their all, proving that age is no barrier to strength, vitality, and determination. The event wasn’t just about winning—it was a celebration of effort, resilience, and personal achievement.

A highlight of the day was the award ceremony, where every community received recognition, from first to last place. These accolades honored the dedication and sportsmanship of each athlete and reinforced the value of inclusion and respect for the elderly.

Princess R. Conteh, captain of the Congo Town Community and winner of the women’s walking race, shared her joy:

“It’s been more than fifteen years since some of us had this privilege. We feel like we’re fifteen or sixteen again. We’re grateful to the organizers.”

Another participant was moved to tears as soothing music played, capturing the emotional depth of the day.

The event concluded with a lighthearted awards tally: Wilberforce Barracks placed fourth with 56 points, Congo Town Community came third, Tengbeh Town Community secured second with 78 points, and Gwent Height Community emerged victorious with 82 points.

This celebration was a powerful reminder of the strength and spirit that come with age. It highlighted the importance of keeping seniors active, connected, and appreciated—values that the Foundation continues to champion with heart and dedication.
