Freetown, 29th September 2025– The European Union, in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, officially launched the 2025 edition of the EU-Sierra Leone Bus Tour on Friday, September 26, at Tower Hill in Freetown. The annual initiative serves as a monitoring and engagement exercise, spotlighting development projects jointly implemented across the country.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, emphasized the significance of the tour in strengthening ties between the EU and Sierra Leone. “This year’s bus tour will take us on a journey across Sierra Leone to see firsthand the fruits of our partnership with the government. It brings EU member states closer to the people of Sierra Leone,” he said. Ambassador Jankowski described the tour as a symbol of the EU’s enduring commitment to the nation, calling it “a testimony to our dedication to Sierra Leone and its people.”

Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Titus Williams, echoed the ambassador’s sentiments, attributing the deepening of EU-Sierra Leone relations to the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio. “This initiative has become a valued tradition, symbolizing trust, solidarity, and shared commitment,” Dr. Williams remarked. He further noted that the tour is not merely ceremonial but a meaningful journey of engagement. “It brings development closer to the people, raises awareness, and showcases EU-supported projects that continue to transform communities across Sierra Leone.”

This year’s bus tour will be conducted in two phases, one week in September and another in December, spanning a total of two weeks. The event concluded with a media photo session, marking the official start of the nationwide journey.
