Kissy, Freetown, 24th October 2025- Just 48 hours after wrapping up the Climate Resilience and Energy Transition (CRET 2025) Dialogue, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella was back in the field, this time at the Nant Power Project site in Kissy, Freetown, demonstrating his trademark commitment to action and accountability.
As Presidential Initiative Lead on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, and Energy Sector Lead, Dr. Yumkella’s visit underscored the government’s push to translate policy into progress. He was welcomed by Nant Power’s General Manager, Mr. Abu Kamara, who emphasized the urgency of the project and its potential to transform Sierra Leone’s energy landscape.
Before the site tour began, Health Safety and Environment Manager Raji Abdallah conducted a safety briefing, followed by a technical presentation from Chief Engineer Raphael Akhigbe. Akhigbe outlined the site’s design, key milestones, and the engineering roadmap ahead.
At the heart of the construction zone, Executive Chairman Mr. Karim Nasser personally led Dr. Yumkella through the facility, detailing the company’s phased rollout plan. Nant Power aims to deliver between 60 and 70 megawatts of electricity by December 2026, a major boost to the country’s energy capacity.
Dr. Yumkella praised the team’s transparency and progress, noting the importance of keeping timelines. “The President did the groundbreaking last year, and I will go back to brief him on how far you’ve come,” he said. “By March, we expect to see those towers rising. The big news is that the first engine will start pumping power by December 2026.”
