Freetown, 29th January 2026- The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has moved to calm public concern over the contractual status of Leone Stars head coach Mohamed Kallon, assuring that the matter “will be resolved.”
Speaking at a press conference, Kamara confirmed that Kallon, who has been in charge of the national team for nearly a year, has not yet signed a formal contract with the SLFA. However, he emphasized that discussions with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports are ongoing, and a pre-contract agreement is being prepared for review.
Kallon, appointed in February 2025, has led the Leone Stars through a series of international friendlies and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His next major assignments include the FIFA Men’s Series in March 2026 where Sierra Leone will face Azerbaijan, Oman, and St. Lucia and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in September. Expectations are high that he can guide the team to the next AFCON tournament.
Kamara dismissed speculation of any rift between the SLFA and Kallon, stressing that the coach enjoys the full confidence of the federation. “We have no issue with Kallon. He is a good coach and has been doing well. We are not going to sack him. We are on very good footing,” Kamara said.
The SLFA President’s remarks are intended to reassure fans and stakeholders ahead of a crucial year for Sierra Leonean football, as the Leone Stars prepare for competitive fixtures that could define their international standing.
