Freetown, 7th October 2026- The Supreme Court has adjourned proceedings in the matter concerning the Constitutional Amendment Bill before it until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, following a series of key rulings delivered by the Chief Justice.
During today’s sitting, the Chief Justice ruled that the Attorney General should be heard in the case despite not having filed formal papers before the Supreme Court. The ruling allows the Attorney General to participate in the proceedings and present arguments on issues arising in the matter.
In a separate ruling, the Chief Justice granted an application by the Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (IRLAJ), making the organization an official party to the case before the court.
The decisions are expected to shape the next phase of the proceedings, as the Supreme Court resumes hearing the matter tomorrow morning with the Attorney General and IRLAJ now formally involved in the case.
The case continues to attract public interest as the country’s highest court considers issues arising from the dispute.
