Freetown, 4th February 2026– Government Pathologist and Chief Medical Examiner, Dr Simeon Owizz Koroma has presented the post-mortem report in the ongoing murder case of the late Sia Fatu Kamara. According to the findings, Sia Fatu Kamara died as a result of manual strangulation. Dr. Owizz told the court that visible finger marks were found on her body, further supporting this conclusion.

Sia Fatu Kamara, who served as the Personal Assistant to the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, died in August 2024. Following her death, the police arrested Abdul Kpaka, who is standing trial as the suspect in the case. As part of the prosecution’s evidence, Dr. Owizz presented the post-mortem report in court today. He disclosed that the examination revealed a very deep cut on Sia’s lower left lip, as well as several dislocations in her skeletal structure. The report also showed that she had sustained multiple bruises.

Dr. Owizz explained that these findings were made after conducting both external and internal examinations on the body. He further stated that Sia’s neck was visibly swollen. During the post-mortem examination, Sia’s elder brother was present, along with Police Constable 13164 Turay S. and Inspector Nyakeh Kamara of the Lumley Police Division.

During cross-examination, defense counsel Teddy Koroma Esq. relied on the post-mortem report to question Dr. Owizz, particularly on the cause of death. Dr. Owizz reaffirmed that manual strangulation was the direct cause of Sia Fatu Kamara’s death. The defense also questioned whether the embalming carried out at Virtues Funeral Home could have interfered with the condition of the body and influenced the findings. In response, Dr. Owizz stated that embalming is done to preserve a body and does not create or suggest evidence of manual strangulation.

While the prosecution maintains that the medical evidence directly supports its case, the defense continues to dispute the conclusions, raising doubts about the reliability of the post-mortem findings.

Presiding Judge, Justice Ganda of High Court No. 1, has adjourned the case to 11th February 2026 for further proceedings.
