Freetown, 22nd January 2026- The Orange Digital Center has officially launched a free Coursera training program designed to strengthen the skills of journalists across the country. The initiative kicked off with an orientation session held yesterday at the Center, marking the beginning of what organizers described as “an exciting learning journey” for participants.
The orientation introduced attendees to the structure of the program, offering guidance on how to maximize the opportunities available through Coursera’s global learning platform. Key areas covered included course navigation, expectations, and strategies for applying newly acquired skills in the fast-evolving media landscape.
Opening the event, Danetta Younge, General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to capacity building and professional development in the media sector. “This program is about equipping journalists with the tools they need to thrive in a digital age,” she said.
The session also featured contributions from Annie Wonnie Katta, Director of Orange Foundation, alongside representatives from Truth Media, Liberty Online TV, The Times Newspaper, and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ). Their insights, practical advice, and words of encouragement energized participants as they prepared to embark on the training.
Organizers emphasized that the program is not only about retooling journalists for the present but also about preparing them to meet the challenges of the future. With the support of Orange Digital Center and Coursera, participants are expected to gain new skills that will enhance reporting standards, strengthen media institutions, and expand professional opportunities.
The training continues in the weeks ahead, with participants expressing optimism about the impact it will have on their careers and the wider media industry in Sierra Leone.
