Freetown, 20th November 2025 – The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has issued a festive season compliance reminder to taxpayers nationwide, urging businesses, traders, and event organizers to meet their tax obligations as celebrations approach.

In a statement released through its Domestic Tax Department, the NRA extended seasonal greetings and expressed appreciation to taxpayers for their continued contributions to Sierra Leone’s development. The Commissioner General noted that taxes play a vital role in building roads, equipping hospitals, improving education, and strengthening public services.

The Authority highlighted three key areas of compliance:

Issuing GST Receipts: All businesses are required to issue receipts through the approved Electronic Cash Register (ECR) for every sale. The NRA acknowledged the increase in sales during the festive period but stressed that compliance remains mandatory. Mystery shoppers and supervisors have been deployed to monitor transactions and identify non‑compliant businesses.

Selling Only Stamped Excisable Goods: Traders dealing in alcohol, soft drinks, tobacco, bottled water, and other excisable products must ensure all goods carry the official Excise Stamp, confirming that duties have been paid. The NRA warned that selling unstamped goods is an offence and may result in penalties or confiscation.

Registering Entertainment Events: Organizers and promoters are reminded to register all events and pay the applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST) on ticket sales and gate proceeds. The Authority said compliance will ensure smooth, uninterrupted events during the festive season, with enforcement carried out in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police.

The NRA encouraged taxpayers to celebrate responsibly while fulfilling their obligations, stressing that compliance strengthens the national economy and ensures fairness in contributions to Sierra Leone’s progress.

On behalf of the institution, the Commissioner General thanked taxpayers for their cooperation throughout the year and wished all Sierra Leoneans a joyful, peaceful, and prosperous festive season.
