Kono, Gbense Chiefdom, 29th June, 2026 –The Resident High Court Judge in Kono, Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura, has sentenced 20‑year‑old Amos Aiah Daniel to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 2‑year‑old girl, an attack that led to her death.
Daniel, of No. 9 Sandor Street, Koidu City, was arraigned on a three‑count indictment: Sexual Penetration of a Child, Meeting a Child for Sexual Purposes, and Sexual Touching offences under Sierra Leone’s Sexual Offences Act, 2012, as amended in 2019.
The prosecution, led by State Counsel Charles Foday Sesay, told the court that the assault occurred on March 4, 2026, and resulted in the child’s death. Sesay further revealed that Daniel had a prior conviction and was already standing trial for another felony.
Although defence counsel Alpha Osman Kamara Esq. urged the court to temper justice with mercy, citing Daniel’s early guilty plea and cooperation with investigators, Justice Bangura dismissed the plea. In a strongly worded judgment, he described the act as “despicable and unimaginable,” adding that the convict had robbed Sierra Leone of a potential future leader.
“By his actions, the convict killed the aspirations and dreams of the deceased dreams that could have seen her become a President, a Judge, a Doctor, or an Accountant,” Justice Bangura said.
Delivering sentence, the judge imposed life imprisonment on Count One (Sexual Penetration of a Child), 10 years’ imprisonment on Count Two (Meeting a Child for Sexual Purposes), 10 years’ imprisonment on Count Three (Sexual Touching)
The sentences will run concurrently, effectively jailing Daniel for life. This ruling underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to protecting minors under strengthened laws.
