Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia- The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry, arresting a 52-year-old Sierra Leonean national, Abraham Kromah, in possession of a large consignment of marijuana.

According to the LDEA, Kromah was caught attempting to smuggle 59 compressed plates of marijuana into Liberia. The drugs were concealed in the trunk of his vehicle, hidden beneath a car engine placed where the spare tire would normally be stored, a tactic authorities described as a calculated effort to evade detection.

The street value of the seized marijuana is estimated at LRD 760,000 (approximately USD 4,000).

Kromah has been handed over to the LDEA’s Investigation Section for further questioning and will be prosecuted in accordance with Liberian law.

“This arrest is another major breakthrough in our fight against illicit drugs,” said G. Olando Demey, Chief of Public Relations at the LDEA. “No amount of concealment or cross-border trickery will shield traffickers from the reach of our enforcement teams.”

The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security forces in the national effort to combat drug trafficking. “We count on citizens to be our eyes and ears. Together, we can rid Liberia of the scourge of illegal drugs,” Demey added.

This latest arrest comes just a day after the LDEA confirmed the seizure of 480 cartons of Tramadol in Tieni, also in Grand Cape Mount County, underscoring the agency’s intensified crackdown on narcotics across the region.
