Freetown, 1st November 2025– The Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) is turning 45 and it’s doing so with ambition, vision, and a full calendar of transformative events. In a departure from tradition, IPAM will celebrate its anniversary not just on its foundation day, November 5th, but across an entire year, signaling a new chapter in its institutional journey.

The announcement was made by Associate Professor Miriam Conteh-Morgan, immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the 45th Anniversary Coordinating Committee, during a press briefing held at the DVC Conference Room on October 30th.

“Normally, the anniversary is on November 5th,” Professor Conteh-Morgan noted. “But this time around, we believe we need more than just a day, considering this milestone. We have planned activities for the whole year.”

The festivities will kick off on November 5th with a ceremonial flag-hoisting, led by a distinguished alumnus from the sporting world. The celebration then shifts to Freetown City Hall for a national consultative conference, where the spotlight will fall on the unveiling of IPAM’s Transformative, Rebranding, and Repositioning Agenda—a bold blueprint for the institute’s future.

The conference will feature three dynamic panel discussions:

  • Panel 1: Conceptualizing the Agenda Former DVCs, including Professors Ekundayo Thompson, Alyson Sesay, and Miriam Conteh-Morgan, will unpack the vision behind the new agenda and explore its strategic implications.
  • Panel 2: Stakeholder Perspectives External stakeholders will weigh in on the education, skills, and capacity-building IPAM must prioritize to meet Sierra Leone’s evolving national needs.
  • Panel 3: Alumni and Student Voices Alumni and current students will share their aspirations and offer grassroots insights into the institute’s future direction.

The week’s activities will culminate on Friday, November 7th, with a fundraising dinner hosted by the IPAM Academic Staff Association. The Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone is expected to officially launch the year-long celebration, joined by dignitaries from government, university leadership, and sister colleges—Fourah Bay College (FBC), the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), and the School of Postgraduate Studies.

With a year of reflection, innovation, and engagement ahead, IPAM’s 45th anniversary promises not only to honor its legacy but to chart a bold course for the future.
