Freetown, 21st April, 2026 – The Fullah community has extended solidarity to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) following a recent fire that damaged the office of Deputy Director General Mohamed Ashmieu Bah.
A delegation comprising the Fula Tribal Administration, the Fullah Progressive Union (FPU), the Elders Council, and Tabital Pulaaku International Sierra Leone Chapter donated NLe15,000 and a laptop computer during a brief ceremony at SLBC headquarters. The laptop was contributed by Algassimu Monorma Bah, a member of FPU North America.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Chief Alhaji Mohamed Sarjoh Jalloh, Fullah Tribal Head in the Western Area, described Bah as “a son of the Fullah community,” stressing that his challenges are shared by the community. Chief Jalloh recalled SLBC’s past support for Fullah leaders, including free airtime for peace sensitization campaigns, and emphasized the community’s unity in standing with the national broadcaster.
SLBC Board Chair Dr. Willette James expressed gratitude for the donation, praising the Fullah community’s consistent support and contribution to national development. She noted that while the financial assistance and equipment were valuable, the gesture of solidarity carried even deeper meaning.
Dr. James highlighted SLBC’s ongoing operational challenges, including delayed government subventions and equipment shortages, and appealed for continued support to help the broadcaster fulfill its mandate.
The ceremony concluded with mutual goodwill and a reaffirmation of strong ties between SLBC and the Fullah community.
