Freetown, 10th November, 2025– Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, has acknowledged serious allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment and corruption, made by Ms. Edwina Jamiru, a Diploma Two student in the Legal Studies Programme at the Faculty of Law.
The allegations concern the conduct of Hon. Justice Momoh Jah Stevens, who serves as an Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Law. In an official statement, the university emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of harassment, abuse, or misconduct by staff or students, and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
“The public is assured that these allegations are being thoroughly investigated in accordance with our established procedures and policies,” the statement read.
According to the administration, Ms. Jamiru was previously invited to formally discuss her complaints and was assured that appropriate action would be taken. The matter has since been referred to the College Discipline Committee, which is conducting a full investigation and will make recommendations to the administration. Ms. Jamiru has also been directed to professional support services at FBC, including counseling.
The university expressed concern over Ms. Jamiru’s public commentary on social media, describing her tone and generalizations about staff and the institution as “contemptuous and unproductive.” The administration has advised her to channel future communications through the Deputy Registrar’s Office via formal written correspondence.
Meanwhile, the contract of the lecturer in question, who is not a full-time faculty member, is under review pending the outcome of the investigation. The university stated that further action will be taken as recommended by the Discipline Committee and in accordance with institutional policy.
FBC has urged all students to report incidents of misconduct or harassment through appropriate channels and assured them that such concerns will be treated with confidentiality and seriousness. Students are also encouraged to access available support services to safeguard their well-being during their academic journey.
“The University is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability and will take all necessary steps to ensure a supportive environment,” said Deputy Registrar Brima Bah.
