Freetown, 7th November 2025- As the fight against the possession and intake of harmful drugs and contraband substances continues in Sierra Leone, Justice Simeon Allieu (JA) has sentenced a Nigerian national, Newton Johnson, to the Male Correctional Centre after finding him guilty on two counts. Justice Allieu stated that this decision aims to deter others especially foreigners, who might attempt to bring drugs and other illegal substances into the country. He also noted that he considered the fact that the accused is a young man and a family man before delivering his judgment.

7th November 2025- President Julius Maada Bio has departed Freetown for Abuja, Nigeria, where he will deliver the keynote address at the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Baze University and participate in high-level investment engagements with top African business leaders.

The National Young Women’s Conference, held on November 4th and 5th, 2025, at the Vanilla Complex in Aberdeen, Freetown, brought together young women, gender advocates, policymakers, and civil society leaders to discuss women’s political leadership under the theme “From the Margins to the Stage: Reimagining Young Women’s Political Leadership in Sierra Leone.”
