Freetown, 11th March, 2026 – Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., has held a high-level engagement with renowned sports administrator and FIFA Foundation Board Member, Isha Johansen, to explore new initiatives for correctional service reform and women’s empowerment.

The meeting, held at the Guma Building on Lamina Sankoh Street, focused on innovative rehabilitation programs such as Football for Reform and Fashion for Change, designed to support inmates at the female correctional centre in Freetown. Both initiatives aim to use sport and creative industries as tools for rehabilitation, skills development, and reintegration into society.

Attorney General Sesay emphasized the importance of partnerships in strengthening justice sector reforms. “We remain committed to building systems that improve justice delivery and protect vulnerable women. These discussions must go beyond this room to create impact in courtrooms and in the lives of survivors,” he said.

Johansen, former President of the Sierra Leone Football Association and former FIFA Council Member, commended the Attorney General’s leadership and pledged her support. “I am committed to collaborating with the Office of the Attorney General to advance these initiatives. Rehabilitation and empowerment must be central to how we treat women in correctional facilities,” she noted.

The engagement highlighted the growing role of civil society and international partners in supporting Sierra Leone’s justice reforms. By combining legal frameworks with innovative social programs, both parties expressed optimism that correctional services can be transformed into spaces of rehabilitation and empowerment rather than punishment alone.
