Freetown, 13th October 2026-  Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has called for the timely completion of ongoing rehabilitation works at the Goderich and Congo Cross campuses of Milton Margai Technical University, stressing the importance of improving learning facilities and expanding accommodation for students.

The Vice President appealed during an inspection tour of the BADEA-supported project, where he reviewed progress on the works and engaged contractors, consultants and project managers on challenges affecting implementation.

At the Congo Cross campus, Dr. Jalloh noted that some of the rehabilitated classrooms had already been handed over for use, providing improved learning spaces for students while construction continues on other sections of the project.

During a visit to the Goderich campus, the Vice President expressed satisfaction with the standard of work completed so far, particularly the ongoing construction of new male and female hostels designed to ease accommodation challenges facing students.

“My role is to support the contractors, project managers and consultants so that they can deliver these projects,” he said, emphasizing the need for closer collaboration among all stakeholders to address outstanding issues and keep the project on schedule.

The inspection forms part of a broader mandate assigned by President Julius Maada Bio, who directed the Vice President to monitor key government-supported infrastructure projects across the country and help ensure their successful completion.

The rehabilitation programme is expected to strengthen higher and technical education infrastructure at a time when growing student enrolment continues to increase demand for classrooms, accommodation and other essential facilities.

The project has also drawn praise from civil society. Activist Alphonso Manley welcomed the progress made so far, especially the classrooms already being used by students, but urged authorities to maintain close oversight until all aspects of the project are completed.

“So far, so good. We appreciate the progress, though more work remains to be done,” Manley said, calling for sustained funding and regular monitoring to help contractors meet agreed timelines.

Project managers at both campuses assured the Vice President of their commitment to delivering the remaining works as scheduled. Dr. Jalloh, in turn, pledged to return for further inspections to track progress and ensure the facilities are completed and handed over for public use.
