Freetown, 5th October 2026- Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has welcomed a delegation from Malawi to Sierra Leone for a 10-day knowledge exchange programme aimed at strengthening cooperation in civic education, peacebuilding, local governance, institutional coordination, and citizen engagement.
The delegation was received at the Ministry’s Youyi Building headquarters on Monday, October 5, where Minister Bah described the visit as a valuable opportunity for both countries to share experiences, learn from one another, and deepen bilateral ties.
He expressed optimism that the engagement would provide practical lessons for participants while promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices in governance and public participation.
According to the Minister, the programme will be coordinated by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED) and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, who will oversee the delegation’s engagements with key institutions across the country.
Minister Bah encouraged the visitors to make full use of their stay by actively engaging with stakeholders, exploring innovative approaches to civic education, and building lasting professional relationships.
Reflecting on a visit he made to Malawi about 15 years ago, Bah spoke warmly of the country and its people, describing Malawians as welcoming and proud citizens. He noted that his experience left a lasting impression and underscored the importance of fostering stronger people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Beyond the official programme, the Minister urged the delegation to experience Sierra Leone’s culture and hospitality, including sampling local cuisine and interacting with communities.
He further expressed hope that the exchange would mark the beginning of deeper cooperation between the two countries and lead to future opportunities for Sierra Leonean officials to undertake similar learning visits to Malawi.
The knowledge exchange programme is expected to provide a platform for mutual learning and collaboration, while reinforcing regional efforts to promote civic engagement, democratic governance, and sustainable peacebuilding.
