Freetown, 1st October 2026- The United States Senate has confirmed diplomat Daniel Travis as the next United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, paving the way for a new chapter in diplomatic relations between Washington and Freetown.
According to records published by Congress.gov, Travis, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Counsellor, was confirmed by the Senate through a voice vote after completing the required nomination and review process.
The nomination, listed as PN1022-36 during the 119th Congress, designates Travis as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Congressional records show that the nomination was received in the Senate on June 1 and referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for consideration. A hearing was subsequently held by the committee before members unanimously discharged the nomination and forwarded it to the full Senate, where it was later considered and approved by voice vote.

As a senior career diplomat, Travis brings extensive foreign service experience to a position that is central to managing relations between the United States and Sierra Leone. The United States and Sierra Leone maintain longstanding ties in areas including democratic governance, economic development, public health, education, security cooperation and investment.
His appointment comes at a time when both countries continue to collaborate on programmes aimed at strengthening institutions, promoting economic growth and advancing development priorities.
