Freetown, 16th September 2026 — Karmoh Lahai, a grassroots football coach from Pujehun, has become a national sensation for his unconventional methods and unshakable passion for the game. Known for coaching in the Mende language, jogging around the pitch during matches, and wearing eccentric attire, Lahai has captured the imagination of Sierra Leoneans and emerged as a symbol of ‘radical inclusion’.
His team’s recent victory in the Radical Inclusion Movement Trophy in Pujehun propelled him into the national spotlight. Following the tournament, Lahai was invited to Freetown for the very first time, where he was hosted at State House by Chief Minister Moinina David Sengeh in the company of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara.
Reflecting on the encounter, Chief Minister Sengeh said: “We listened to his story — from Bonthe to Pujehun — and his motivation for sports. Karmoh shared his football philosophy and methodology, and it was clear to us that he can reach his fullest potential. Our job is to give him the opportunity.”
In recognition of his commitment, Lahai received a full set of jerseys for his team, two tracksuits, sneakers, and a mobile phone. Additional support was also extended to the Pujehun Football Association.
Chief Minister Sengeh praised the SLFA President and the Radical Inclusion Movement team for championing Lahai’s work: “Thank you to Mr. Babadi Kamara, the FA, and the RIM team in Pujehun for truly believing in and practicing radical inclusion. Together #WeAreDelivering.”
Lahai’s rise from a local pitch to the corridors of State House is more than a personal triumph — it is a testament to Sierra Leone’s commitment to empowering overlooked voices and building a future where passion and talent can thrive, regardless of background.
