Freetown, 9th September, 2026 – The Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby has outlined plans to construct a modern, purpose-built storage facility in Kerry Town, Western Area Rural.
He made the statement during the unveiling of $2 million worth of medicines, hospital beds, and reproductive health supplies on 8th September, 2026, at the National Medical Supplies Agency’s (NMSA) current warehouse at Ferry Junction, Freetown.
Dr. Demby emphasized that the government is already laying the groundwork for a more sustainable storage solution. He stated that the proposed Kerry Town warehouse would be a dedicated facility designed to handle future healthcare investments, ensuring that life-saving commodities are stored under optimal conditions and could be deployed swiftly when needed.
The Minister noted that such infrastructure is critical to avoiding supply chain bottlenecks and reducing wastage, thereby reinforcing the Ministry’s long-term commitment to maternal and child health.
Dr. Demby also extended heartfelt appreciation to Fawaz Building Materials Company for generously allowing the Ministry to use their premises as a temporary storage site. He commended the company for their partnership and goodwill, which he said had been instrumental in keeping essential supplies accessible, while the government finalizes plans for the permanent facility in Kerry Town.
