Freetown, 7th September, 2026 – The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has issued two major announcements affecting Sierra Leone’s political landscape: a deadline for petitions within the All People’s Congress (APC) and the deregistration of the National Progressive Democrat (NPD) Party.
The Commission has informed APC members that petitions against rulings of the Internal Elections Complaint Board (IECB) must be submitted by Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 4:45 p.m.. Hearings for all petitions will be held the following day, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Commission’s Conference Hall on OAU Drive, Tower Hill, Freetown. The PPRC has invited representatives of the IECB, the Independent Elections Management Committee (IEMC), petitioners, and other stakeholders to attend.
In a separate announcement, the Commission confirmed that the National Progressive Democrat (NPD) Party has been deregistered effective Monday, September 7, 2026. The decision follows repeated warnings to the party regarding violations of the Political Parties Act 2022 (Act No. 25 of 2022).
The PPRC has advised all institutions and stakeholders engaging with political parties in Sierra Leone to refrain from conducting any activities with members of the deregistered NPD henceforth.
These developments underscore the Commission’s constitutional mandate to regulate political parties and enforce compliance with statutory provisions, as Sierra Leone’s political environment continues to evolve.
