Freetown, 23rd July 2026- The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Sengehpo Solomon Thomas, has announced that lawmakers will convene on Tuesday, July 28, to debate and approve instrument on constitutional amendment.
Addressing members during a parliamentary sitting, Speaker Thomas urged leaders from both sides of the aisle to ensure full attendance, stressing the importance of the session.
“Take note and ensure your members are here to lend their voices to this very important instrument,” he said.
The Speaker disclosed that Parliament had received numerous position papers from institutions and individuals across the country. Among the institutions were the Lawyers’ Society, the Unity Party, the National Union of Civil Society Organizations, and Citizens’ Barray, alongside submissions from private citizens.
He assured contributors that their views would be taken seriously: “Parliament will make good use of their position papers and opinions expressed.”
The upcoming debate marks a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s democratic journey, as the legislature prepares to deliberate on constitutional reforms that could shape governance for years to come.
