Freetown, 7th July 2026- Sierra Leone has received a fleet of protocol vehicles from the Government of China, a donation officials say will strengthen the country’s capacity to host high-level events, including the upcoming ECOWAS Summit.
The handover ceremony, held in Freetown on July 7, was co-officiated by Foreign Affairs Minister Timothy Musa Kabba and Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yong, who signed the official transfer documents. Senior officials from both sides, including Counsellor Wang Peng of the Chinese Embassy and Logan, Director-General of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the event.
Ambassador Zhao described the donation as a “vivid testament to the friendship between China and Sierra Leone,” expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation will continue to deliver tangible benefits for both nations.
Minister Kabba praised China’s longstanding support, noting that the vehicles arrive at a crucial time as Sierra Leone prepares to welcome regional leaders for the ECOWAS Summit. “This donation significantly enhances our reception capacity and demonstrates the strength of our partnership with China,” he said.
Following the ceremony, Minister Kabba joined Ambassador Zhao for a test drive, commending the performance and quality of the vehicles.
