Freetown, 3rd July 2026 — The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the temporary suspension of the USD 25 Airport Security Fee at Freetown International Airport, effective Monday, 6 July 2026.

The directive, issued by ministerial order, halts the collection of the fee while the current contract framework undergoes a comprehensive review. The pause is designed to allow the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) to complete an independent special audit and to evaluate a more integrated collection system that reduces inconvenience for passengers.

Officials emphasized that the suspension does not amount to a termination of the operating contract. During this interim period, Securiport (SL) Limited will continue its core technological operations, including logging inbound and outbound passenger traffic data, with diplomatic passport holders exempted.

The Ministry has directed full compliance from airport authorities to ensure a smooth transition and thanked the traveling public for their cooperation.

This move comes amid growing calls for greater transparency and efficiency in airport operations, with the government signaling its commitment to balancing passenger convenience with robust security oversight.
