Accra, Ghana, 16th April 2026— Sierra Leone is celebrating a new wave of medical excellence after five of its doctors successfully passed the rigorous West African College of Surgeons examinations, marking a milestone in the country’s healthcare capacity.

Among the achievers are Dr. Fatmata Yabome Sesay, Dr. Sara Abu-Noah, and Dr. Christopher Aiah Jimmy, who qualified as surgeons; Dr. Kishmatu Aminata Daoh, who earned recognition as an ophthalmologist; and Dr. Umaru Kamara, who received his Diploma in Anesthesia.

Their success follows years of intensive training at Ghana’s prestigious Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where they honed their skills in surgery, ophthalmology, and anesthesia.

Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Togo, and Burkina Faso, Ambassador Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, hailed the achievement as both a personal triumph for the doctors and a proud symbol of the enduring bond between Sierra Leone and Ghana.

“It’s been incredible to watch your journey at Korle-Bu. Your hard work and resilience have truly paid off. You’re not just bringing home world-class skills but also a proud legacy of the bond between Sierra Leone and Ghana,” Ambassador Kaisamba said in a congratulatory message.

The High Commissioner added that the doctors’ success represents hope for countless patients back home and inspiration for future generations of Sierra Leonean medical professionals.

With these new specialists returning to Sierra Leone, the country stands to benefit from enhanced surgical expertise, improved eye care, and stronger anesthesia services, critical areas in a health system striving to meet growing demand.
