Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Archdiocese of Freetown has issued an official clarification on the dress code for St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School, underscoring its commitment to preserving the identity, values, and traditions of Catholic institutions.
In a statement released this week, the Archdiocese emphasized that the approved ceremonial uniform remains unchanged and must be strictly adhered to by all members of Catholic schools and associations. The prescribed attire includes a white knee-length dress, flesh-colour tights, full black shoes, a white hat with hatband, a black handbag, and inconspicuous jewellery.
According to the Archdiocese, the dress code is more than a matter of appearance. It represents unity, discipline, modesty, and the rich Catholic heritage of the institution. The statement stressed that any proposed changes must follow constitutional procedures and due process.
While reaffirming that Catholic schools remain open and welcoming to students of all religious backgrounds, the Archdiocese insisted that those who choose to join must respect and uphold the established values, norms, and codes of conduct.
“The Archdiocese of Freetown maintains the approved dress code as contained in the Constitution. This position is final and reflects our firm commitment to safeguarding the Catholic identity and heritage of our institutions,” the statement concluded.
