Freetown, 31st March 2026- Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Kadijatu Grace Ahene Kamara, has added another milestone to her distinguished career with the launch of her 10th book, The Different Kind of Power. At a ceremony filled with reflection and inspiration, Dr. Kamara urged leaders across Sierra Leone and beyond to embrace what she calls “the soft kind of power.”
“Power is not about controlling others; it’s about uplifting them,” she told the audience, drawing from personal memories of her grandmother who raised thirteen children with quiet strength and compassion. “It is not power that shouts, but power that listens; not power that intimidates, but power that inspires; not power that divides, but power that unites and heals.”
The book, framed as a global leadership guide aligned with UN, EU, AU, and ECOWAS standards, explores empathy, service, and quiet strength as tools for transformation. Dr. Kamara emphasized that her work is deeply personal, written for her children and future generations. “My book is not meant to spite anyone or instigate anything,” she clarified. “It is me putting down my experience so that others may learn.”
She challenged leaders to reflect on their own practices: “Do you set an example? Do you practice what you preach? This book carries the voices of women who have led quietly but powerfully.”
Her message was clear, leadership is not a title but a daily choice. “It is the choice to act with integrity when no one is watching, the choice to listen when it is easiest to command, and the choice to serve when it is easier to be served,” she said.
Concluding the event, Dr. Kamara expressed her hope that The Different Kind of Power will become more than a book, it will become a way of life. “Let it be your mirror so we can see ourselves clearly, and a bridge so we can connect across generations,” she urged.
Echoing President Julius Maada Bio, she left the audience with a striking metaphor: “Stop being a crocodile; allow the younger babies to swim.”
