Freetown, 19th December 2025- The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its support for national security by donating food supplies to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) ahead of the festive season.
The consignment, handed over at Police Headquarters in Freetown, comprised 250 bags of 25kg rice, 20 bags of 50kg sugar, and 40 gallons of cooking oil. Officials said the gesture was intended to motivate officers as they prepare for heightened policing duties during the busy end‑of‑year period.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Zhang Dianbin, described the donation as a reflection of the longstanding ties between the two countries.
“This support demonstrates the strong and enduring bilateral relationship between the Government and people of China and the Sierra Leone Police,” Mr. Zhang said. “It forms part of China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the SLP and supporting its operations, particularly during periods that demand heightened security and public engagement.”
He commended the police for their role in maintaining peace and stability nationwide, expressing confidence that the supplies would “contribute positively to officers’ morale as they work to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all Sierra Leoneans.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dr. John Martin Senesi, conveyed appreciation for what he described as timely support.
“An empty bag cannot stand,” Dr. Senesi remarked, quoting a popular adage. “Welfare support is essential in boosting the morale and productivity of our officers. This donation will go a long way in motivating personnel who are expected to work tirelessly during the festive period to protect lives and property.”
He assured the Embassy that the food items would be distributed judiciously and “in the best interest of police personnel, in line with the SLP’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery.”
The donation, officials noted, underscores the cordial relationship between China and Sierra Leone and highlights Beijing’s ongoing support to national institutions, particularly in areas that promote peace, security, and social stability.
