Freetown, 17th December 2025 The United States Embassy has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Sierra Leone while safeguarding the integrity of its visa system. On December 15, the Embassy joined forces with the Supreme Islamic Council of Sierra Leone (SICRSL) to host a Visa Security and Anti-Fraud Workshop attended by more than 200 imams and Muslim community leaders.

The opening ceremony featured remarks from Chargé d’Affaires Jared Yancey, Director Emmanuel Turay of the Ministry of Information, and SICRSL Secretary General Sheik Ibrahim Barrie. The workshop focused on raising awareness about visa misuse and reinforcing community partnerships to combat fraud.

CDA Yancey stressed the importance of protecting the U.S. visa process, telling participants: “Visas must be used for their intended purpose as the integrity of our system is essential to protecting American interests.”

The Embassy also highlighted its services for American citizens in Sierra Leone and underscored the role of community leaders in preventing fraudulent practices. Organizers said the initiative reflects a broader effort to build trust and cooperation between the United States and Sierra Leonean institutions.

In a joint statement, the Embassy expressed gratitude to SICRSL for its collaboration: “We thank SICRSL for their partnership and look forward to continued cooperation to protect our communities, uphold U.S. law, and advance our shared values.”
