Freetown, 11th December 2025- The President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio has commissioned 1,017 new soldiers and officer cadets into the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), A moment he described as “a defining moment for the nation.”

The event took place at the Julius Maada Bio Drill Square at the Armed Forces Training Center (AFTC), Benguema Barracks. The event brought together high-level dignitaries, military leadership, families, and Business Partners.

Addressing the new officers, President Bio- himself a former cadet and Brigadier General- reminded the graduates that the ceremony symbolized discipline, resilience, patriotism, and national renewal, whilst noting that he once stood on the same parade ground as a young cadet.

“Before I commanded a nation, I learned to follow orders. I was taught here. I marched on this very ground,” he said, adding that some of his former instructors, now elderly, witnessed the ceremony.

He firmly and reflectively addressed the rise of military coups in the sub-region, emphasizing Sierra Leone’s commitment to constitutional governance.

“The era of military intervention in the politics of Sierra Leone is over,” he declared. “A disciplined military does not seize power; it protects the will of the people.”

He further reminded the recruits of their sacred oath to defend the Constitution and serve the nation above tribe, region, or political affiliation. He reaffirmed that the government is committed to strengthening RSLAF through improved barracks infrastructure, modern equipment, expanded training, better welfare, and educational opportunities.

The President extended deep gratitude to the families of the graduation cohort. “Your sacrifices, prayers, and encouragement made this moment possible,” he told guardians and parents.

President Bio- encouraged the new recruits to uphold discipline, reject corruption, respect the chain of command, and protect civilians.

“Wear your uniform with pride. Serve with honour, and live with integrity,” he urged. “If a young cadet, from a small village, like me, could rise to Brigadier General and President, then your future holds limitless promise.” He encouraged.
