Freetown, 5th December 2025- The Australian High Commission in Ghana has announced five recipients of the prestigious 2026 Australia Awards scholarships, celebrating emerging leaders from Ghana and Sierra Leone who will pursue advanced studies in Australia.
“We are proud to celebrate five outstanding recipients of the 2026 Australia Awards scholarships. These emerging leaders will study in Australia in fields that support sustainable development at home. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make in Ghana and Sierra Leone, and to welcoming them into Australia’s global alumni community,” the High Commission said in a statement.
Among the awardees are two Sierra Leoneans who will undertake postgraduate programs in fields critical to their country’s development.
Mohamed Muctar Sow, a prosecutor with Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission, will pursue a Master of Public Policy at the Australian National University. He described the opportunity as a chance to sharpen his expertise and broaden his outlook.
“To deepening my skills, expand my global perspective, and empower myself to contribute meaningfully to development efforts in my country. I also look forward to building strong networks and applying innovative ideas to real challenges back home,” Sow said.
Joining him is Maada Moiwah Ansumana, a civil engineer with Marampa Mines Limited, who will study for a Master of Engineering (Professional) at Deakin University. He emphasized the importance of applying advanced knowledge to Sierra Leone’s infrastructure needs.
“To gaining cutting-edge expertise in civil and structural engineering, collaborating with international peers, and applying research to real-world challenges. My goal is to return better prepared to address Sierra Leone’s infrastructure needs,” Ansumana noted.
The Australia Awards scholarships are part of the Australian Government’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and supporting sustainable development.
