Freetown, November 17, 2025 — The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has strongly condemned remarks made by Hon. Lahai Marah, the All People’s Congress (APC) District Chairman for Falaba, during a recent tripartite engagement session at the Falaba District Council Hall.

ILRAJ described Marah’s statements, including claims that the APC “has the capacity to resist the military and the police” and references to drones and private military services, as “inflammatory, threatening, and a grave danger to national security and public order.”

According to ILRAJ, such rhetoric undermines democratic institutions, incites potential violence, and risks reversing progress achieved through post‑war reconciliation and ongoing electoral reforms. The organization noted that the forum was intended to foster constructive dialogue and build trust ahead of the 2028 elections, but was instead “hijacked” by remarks that evoked militaristic confrontation.

ILRAJ has called on the APC leadership to publicly dissociate itself from Marah’s comments, impose disciplinary measures, and adopt safeguards to prevent similar incidents. The institute also urged all political actors to reject divisive language and recommit to peaceful, lawful engagement as Sierra Leone prepares for its next electoral cycle.

“In line with our mandate to defend the rule of law and promote human rights, ILRAJ will continue to monitor developments and advocate for accountability to ensure Sierra Leone’s democratic gains are protected,” the statement concluded.
